Swine Flu - Update 11 May 2009
I hope this update is reaching all our brothers and sisters in good health Isha'Allah. There are no reported cases within our community in Europe so far which have been brought to our attention. If there are any cases which we may be unaware of so far, then please let us know as soon as possible and follow the advice given earlier.
The spread is on going and upto 30 countries have officially reported 4694 cases of Influenza A (H1N1) infection. There have so far been 48 deaths: 44 in Mexico, 2 in the United States, 1 in Canada and 1 in Costa Rica. (WHO Influenza A (H1N1) - update 25) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported a total of 2618 confirmed cases in 44 states. The CDC report three deaths in the US so far (WHO figures to be updated in light of this).
The CDC anticipates that that there will be more cases, more hospitalisations and more deaths associated with the H1N1 virus in the coming days and weeks because the population has little to no immunity against it.
The Advice to the public remains the same as with the other Updates.
We will inform you of further changes in the near future as we keep uptodate with the medical media ourselves at HIB.
Once again, let us all pray to Allah (SWT) and the 14 masumeen (AS) that we remain safe and heed the advice being disseminated by the media. Should you be worried or need further advice, please contact your GP or email us on hib@coej.org.
