Welcome to the Boys' Summer Camp Blog

The Summer camp has been a flagship project for CoEJ for a number of years - in fact, it has made the word 'Sweden' synonymous with it.

Every year, the camp team always scouts out better locations (in terms of facilities or cost), both in Sweden and the UK. Extra effort was made to look for UK sites given the increasing costs of flights, the difficult economic times and short time between end of school and the start of Shahr Ramadhan. This would have made a two-week 'abroad' camp very difficult.

Based on all these factors, we were very fortunate to come across the Open Door Adventure Centre in north Wales. The site is a rural and scenic camp site specialising in camper development through activity based learning. We were also very excited about the range of activities they could offer including rock climbing, gorge walking and archery - all of which would give campers some great experiences.

With just under one week to the start of the camps, the preparations are well under way. We have found willing mentors and our main training session has been completed. The administration team are still putting the finishing touches to the logistics and timetable - discussing menus (which makes everyone hungry), as well as room allocations and activity timetables.

The CoEJ Secretariat ("the office") is working hard collating the camper details, liaising with transport providers, ordering equipment, and a whole host of other important tasks. Without them, it would be difficult or impossible to run a camp!
InshAllah over the next two weeks, different members of the team will present their 'own' thoughts and feelings - inshAllah giving you an inside look at the camp.

At the moment, we are still short of campers - if you are thinking of applying, or know someone who might be interested, we can only urge you to take the most of this opportunity. There are truly excellent activities, great mentors; and as a former camper myself, we can promise that the friendships we built at the camp five years ago are still strong today.
