Home Boards And Desks Education Reports GCSE Study Skills Course 2003 - Report

Report by Sister Sabiha Khokar (2003 Girl Participant) on the 5th GCSE Study Skills Course held on 20th – 23rd December 2003 Birmingham

This GCSE study skills has helped me a lot.  Although I haven’t yet taken my GCSE’s I am now clearer on many things that had been question marks to me my whole life.  This course doesn’t just cover the academic topics that you have difficulty with, but also teaches you how to revise and control stress.

There are many things I learnt at this course that I could never have learnt at school.  School doesn’t really cover the topics that matter to you and your learning, but focus on the syllabus. This course has made me discover a lot about myself.  For example, I now know that the best way for me to study is by using colour and reading things out loud.  This course taught me to assemble various information in order of importance, so that I could see the big picture and see which parts I had to concentrate on.

There are many different ways in which these people have made learning easier, and believe it or not, in some aspects even more enjoyable!

Above all I surprising enjoyed myself.  Before going on the course I knew hardly anyone, and on my way back I had spoken to each and every girl on the course.

I really appreciated all the material and food that COEJ provided for us.  We got many books and past papers that are sure to help us now in the coming months in which we all should be cramming in as much information as possible, ready for the final examination.

I hope that anyone else going on this trip would benefit from and appreciate all the time and effort COEJ has put in to provide us with this golden opportunity.  Speaking from experience, I can now say that you’d be a fool to miss out!  I got on the coach thinking I had nothing to loose, but as I stepped off it at the end of it all, I didn’t actually realise I had so much more knowledge yet to gain.  There is no limit to knowledge, and this course has made me realise that I still have a lot to learn.
