Mentor Profile - Seyyid Murtaza Jaffer
Murtaza was born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1986, and lived there until his family migrated to London in 1992. His roots are somewhat diverse, Shirin his mother traces back her roots to India while his father, Hussein is half Iranian and half Iraqi. He comes from a family of five with an older brother and a younger sister.
Murtaza completed his GCSEs at Haydon School, and went to study Economics, Law and Politics for A levels. He then went on to pursue a BA in Business Management at DeMontfort University in Leicester and has just completed his final year. Murtaza plans on completing his Postgraduate Certificate in Education the following year to God willing become a teacher at secondary school level in Business and Economics.
Throughout his time at University, Murtaza has been a member of the AhlulBait society and was blessed with the opportunity to organise a conjoint Ashura and Gaza awareness campaign, highlighting Imam Hussein’s stand for justice and the atrocities in Palestine at the beginning of the year.
Murtaza is also a very keen sportsperson, not only did he represent Stanmore Jamaat and Haydon School in both Football and Tennis, he played both sports at local club level for a number of years. Alongside his sporting credentials Murtaza enjoys travelling, reading and cooking.
