ImageSajjad was born in Birmingham, UK, in 1988 as the younger of two brothers. His parents, Sadik and Shamim Hassam were born in Tanzania , and migrated to the UK in 1983. The family is settled in Birmingham. He is currently reading a degree in Economics (BSc.) at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences; following his very good achievements at both GCSE and A-Level at King Edward's School, Birmingham. Sajjad feels very fortunate to be studying at the LSE; especially due to the diversity of his friends – he can honestly claim that he has close contacts in every continent except Antarctica. Sajjad is a volunteer on the CoEJ Youth Desk (having joined in September last year); and has worked on several projects including literary and artistic competitions, as well as an English Nawha/Marthiya Booklet. Currently, he is co-ordinating the development of a CD to go with the nawha/marthiya booklet; as well as being part of a team organising the Freshers' Fair section of the CoEJ Careers Day. He has previously volunteered at a number of organisations; including as an administrator for the Muhammadi Madrasah in Birmingham and as a team-member on some of the Iraq Relief collections for the World Federation. Outside of his academic and voluntary activities; Sajjad takes an interest in sport (occasionally playing squash, badminton, football and cricket) as well as keeping up with current affairs. He has attended the Sweden Camp both as a camper (2005) and as a mentor (2007); as is looking forward to this year's camp, and aims to offer the campers same enjoyable experience that he had.
