PPP Easter Revision Course 2010
The Education Committee of The Council of European Jamaats held the annual GCSE and A Level Revision Course at Malvern St James, between 11 and 17 April 2010. Attended by 37 students, representing nearly all UK jamaats, the future of our community gathered for an intensive week of past paper practice in English, Science, Mathematics and Economics. Each day was filled with classes of two to three students being taught by experienced teachers from within and outside our communities. Private study sessions were supervised by subject mentors who were undergraduates from our communities with excellent academic qualifications and an innate desire to give back to the course which helped many of them only a few years ago.
The timetable for each day was organised around the prayer times for Zohr and Maghrib when all students and staff recited Namaaz communally.
The afternoons saw time dedicated to sports, with the evenings devoted to surgery. Surgery sessions allow students to take control of their own revision: working on problems set by teachers during the day, working on past papers on their own, or approaching teachers for specific one-to-one tutoring on difficult topics. Some teachers also used these sessions to hold master classes on common difficult topics across all syllabi.
After classes finished, students were given some free time to relax and get to know each other better. Activities included playing pool together. A special programme of Dua Kumayl and Ziyarat-e-Waritha was held on Thursday night.
Overall, the course was a great success. For all students, the learning experience had significantly improved their revision skills and examination technique. With a maximum class size of three, students were able to take full advantage of the teachers at their disposal and used the full week to ensure they are fully equipped with the knowledge to be able to aspire towards their academic potential.
We pray that all students who attended this course do well in their upcoming examinations, and develop into the next generation of leaders in our community.
