Arif Hasham

Arif Hasham is a prominent and eloquent speaker with a scientific research and educational background. He is an Assistant Headteacher of large community school in London, and is a member of various professional institutes, numerous steering groups and educational forums. Additionally, he has served at the Department for Children, Schools and Families. He is well known for his community work, teacher training courses and multiple WF/CoEJ camps and seminars.

Aqil Datoo

Aqil Datoo is a graduand of The University of Oxford, with a Masters in Mathematics and Statistics. A Business Analyst at a management consulting company and Secretary of Education at the Council of European Jamaats, he has been involved with numerous CoEJ Education projects since 2004. Aqil has also worked extensively with the Oxford access program, Target Schools, presenting at schools across the country and mentoring students throughout their secondary education.

FAQ

Should I already have a draft personal statement before the event?

Do not worry if you dont. The workshop has been designed so that you leave with a complete first draft of your personal statement, even if you havent made one before. We will guide you through the whole process and be on call for the whole day!

If you already have a personal statment draft, please do bring it with you so we can review and improve on it to maximise your chances of getting to your first choice university!

Do I need to bring anything?

We will provide you with pens, paper and resource booklet. We strongly recommend that you bring your currrent personal statement draft. Don't worry if you haven't made one yet - we can sit with you and produce one during the workshop!

What is the format of the event?

The workshop has many different formats during the day, each designed to give you as much information as possible. This can be through an interactive workshop, seminar, Q&A panel, lecture or informal networking. See Timetable.

Will this course cost me anything?

No, its absolutely free!

What is the deadline for registration?

There deadline for registration is 18 September 2010. To avoid disappointment, Register now!.

Is there any transport available from other Jamaats?

If there is enough demand from certain areas in the UK; we are able to provide free transport. Please indicate your need for this service in your registration form.You shall be notified nearer the time if any transport will be provided in your area.

Is this still suitable for me if I'm still not sure which degree I want to choose?

Definitely! We have a talk that specifically covers how to choose a degree and university. You can then discuss these ideas during the Q&A sessions and workshop with our speakers and group leaders.

How will this course increase my chances of getting into university?

The personal statement is the only part of the UCAS application form which you have control over. This workshop aims to present you with a proven framework to enable to maximise your chances in reading your chosen degree at your preferred university.

In its 9th iteration, the UCAS Workshop gives you a helping hand in completing your UCAS application from students who have successfully navigated through it and are currently studying at university. Representatives from many different universities and subjects will be on hand to help you write your personal statement, answer any questions on interview technique and offer advice on their respective universities and degrees!

We aim to provide a detailed look at hand picked personal statements, and give you the opportunity to write your own, complete, draft of a personal statement.
