Lead by Example

Background
As we envision our future, we realise that we can only achieve our ambitious community goals through creating highly capable, able and strategic leaders.

This Programme is designed to provide individuals with common leadership tools, with the overall objective of developing leadership capacity within our Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Muslim communities. It will also allow participants to realise their own leadership styles and to enhance and evolve their skills to ensure more productive and efficient working methods.

The aim is to help to train and develop a new generation of leaders; to shape a model of positive leadership which engages both our cultural heritage and the modern society we live in. You could say it’s about leadershape, not just leadership. We seek individuals who are passionate about improving themselves.

The programme fits in well with our agreed World Federation strategy for capacity building vision ‘unlocking the potential of our people to serve the community and humanity’. Just as a flower grows from planting a see in fertile soil and regular watering, leaders emerge through seeking, encouraging and nurturing the appropriate people. Allah has given us on trust (amanah) range of capabilities; it is our responsibility to enhance these to fulfil Allah’s will on this earth.

Programme Philosophy

The philosophy underpinning the programme is that each individual possesses unique talent based on personal experiences. Drawing out that talent, applying it to the wider model of leadership, understanding how it affects an individual’s approach to tasks tells us a great deal about the type of leader that individual is. This programme will enable participants to explore their assumptions, attitudes, thinking, values to understand themselves and others better, so that they can shape a new and inclusive path to becoming effective leaders.

The Leadership Programme requires participants to commit fully to this process of learning; it requires active engagement and openness. It is a challenging course, but experience shows that those who are open to new ideas, ways of thinking will leave with the most fulfilling results.

Programme Objectives

To develop a community vision and the role of the self in the realisation of that vision
To develop individuals to perform to their potential
To enhance leadership capacity and capability
To provide opportunities for individuals to explore assumptions and ideas
To enhance values, ethics, self awareness, personal growth and emotional intelligence
To nurture the ability to understand other people, their environment and work effectively in changing, challenging circumstances
To develop reflective skills
To understand the support network available to realise the community vision

Funding

The total programme cost is £550 (all incl.) per participant for 2 weekends. Those who can afford it will be encouraged to contribute towards the full cost. The remainder will be asked to contribute a minimum of £195.  Any shortfall between individual contributions & total costs will be met by generous donors through The World Federation & CoEJ capacity building programme.

Support

Experience from past programmes has demonstrated that once participants have completed a module of the leadership development programme they need support to continue their leadership development journeys. We have now trained mentors who will be matched with each of the participants of this programme to mentor them for at least a year. Those who are selected for this programme will have to give a commitment to be mentored for at least a year.

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.
