Reception in Honour of His Excellency Mr Syed Mohammad Khatami |

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) hosted a reception in honour of His Excellency Syedd Mohammad Khatami, the immediate past President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the current President of the International Foundation for Dialogue among Civilizations.
Muslims attended the reception from all walks of life. The Council of European Jamaats and the World Federation were strongly represented including members from individual jamaats.
Dr Akber Mohamedali, a member the Central working committee of the Muslim Council of Britain and head of the External Liaison of The CoEJ, chaired the reception. The reception commenced with the recitation of some verses of Sure Maryam from the Holy Quran.
Dr Mohamed Abdul Bari, the Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain addressed the gathering and outlined the work MCB are currently doing and trying to achieve during this turbulent time.
In the keynote speech by His Excellency Sayyid Mohamed Khatami spoke eloquently and gave a powerful message to all the Muslims in particular the Muslims in the UK. He stressed the importance of keeping steadfast on the teachings of the Holy Quran and the guidance
laid down by the Holy Prophet. He outlined the need for co-existence of members of all faith for peace and security of this world. He cautioned everyone to be vigilant of not falling in the trap of the few misguided, whose aim is to create misunderstanding and confusion.
He stressed the importance of taking lessons from history and avoid creating conditions, which contributed to the two World wars and the recent conflicts in the world. He emphasised the importance of Justice for all.
A special message to the Muslims in UK was to adhere to the rule of the land as citizen of this country but at the same time to demand and enjoy all the rights, which comes with it. Syed Mohamed Khatami's message to the countries authorities was to treat all citizens
equally and fairly.
The closure of the reception saw a vote of thanks being delivered by the immediate past Secretary General Sir Iqbal Saqranie.
The Council of European Jamaats was represented by President, Munawer Rattansey, Secretary General, Murtaza Bharwani, and the World Federation represented it self with Treasurer Azad Kanani, Executive Councillor Sabira Lakha
Also in attendance were representatives from a number of CoEJ member jamaats as well as various Board chairs and their committee members.
The President of Council of European Jamaats gave a media interview to the Press Association as well as the Independent Newspaper.
