With only a month to go before the start of the camp, I’m sure you’ve started counting down the days! You will be pleased to know that yesterday, the admin team met to organise the Mentor’s Training Weekend , a session that has been specifically designed for the camp so that the mentors are geared to give you the most out of themselves.
One of the items that was talked about in this meeting was the choice of topics and teachers for the lessons throughout the camp. You are very lucky this year because not only will you have mentors teaching you from their wide range of experiences, but we also have Dr. Mahmood Datoo who is a professional lecturer, Sheikh Shahnawaz Mahdavi who is a resident Aalim and Uncle Arif Hasham who is a qualified teacher. What more could you ask for??? When the camp starts, you will notice that you will be learning all sorts of weird and wonderful things in all the activities that you take part in throughout the day. However, we feel it is important that certain topics are covered in a more formal setting so that you gain a deeper understanding of them and have the chance to ask specific questions. For these lessons you will be split up into classes of your own age group so that you can interact with campers of your own level of understanding. Alhamdulillah, we have managed to put together a first draft of the topics and I can honestly tell you that there is much to look forward to. The topics cover a great variety of areas from religious, secular and social fields, all of which will inshallah help you on the path towards excellence! If you’re smart you’ll have already had a taste of the topics from the previous camps ;o). However, that’s not all… since we have mentors and teachers who are specialised in so many areas, you will have plenty of opportunities to grab one of them at meal times or on the sports field to ask any personal questions that you may have. So as you tick the days off on your calendar in the run up to the camp, make sure you write down any questions you have before you forget them and leave space in your brains for all the wonderful answers!
