Salaam Alaykum, This is the first blog from me, who will be assisting in the administration of the camp this year. After several weeks of exams, several days at another camp and some time supporting another project, I can finally concentrate on giving myself to Sweden this year. That means catching up on the hundreds of emails that have filled up my mailbox! Oh Dear! This week we have been finalising things for the mentors, not only thanking them for giving up their time but also to invite them to the mentors training weekend (MTW). What makes the camp such a success is the fact that sincere, young, bright individuals agree to give up their time to be mentors for each and every one of you. Mentoring is not an easy role! With 8 campers under their wing in a strange environment mentors have to be on top form to ensure that the campers are getting 110% out of the camp. Their role includes nurturing and training of the campers so that you can reach your full potential and grow further. The mentors, however, are not thrown into the deep end but are given a full training weekend (MTW) to give them a taster of what the Sweden camp will be like and equip them with some of the skills necessary to be able to give the campers a great experience. Past campers have always expressed their gratitude and have constantly said that it was their mentors that helped to enhance their spirituality, courage, resilience, patience and so many other skills. You, this years campers, should be proud to be able to come to a camp and have some of the best people in this community being your mentors. Alhamdulilah.
Anyway, better get back to reading/deleting the emails. You know some people at the work place spend more time deleting emails than actually working, well that’s a story for another day!
