As hosts of the tournament, Peterborough Shia Sports were extremely grateful for being chosen to host the 2007 CoEJ MAMT tournament over the August bank-holiday weekend. Like last year, we decided as hosts to hold the tournament over 3 days (Saturday 25th August to Monday 27th August 2007) in order to maximise the number of sports being played.
Football for all age groups, except for 12 and under, was held at Power League, Stanground on Saturday 25th August. We had exclusive use to the Power League 5-a-side football pitches and in total 8 out of the 9 pitches were used. The football tournament was extremely successful and Alhamdulillah everyone enjoyed themselves. On Sunday 26th August, there were numerous sports hosted at two different venues.
Bushfield Sports Centre was the main venue for this day. The events that took place were the adults volleyball, table tennis and tennis tournaments. Alhamdulillah, all went well with all the participants enjoying themselves. The conclusion of the adults volleyball tournament would take place at Bushfield Sports Centre the following day.
Werrington Sports Centre hosted the badminton and the beginners volleyball tournaments. The beginners volleyball tournament was introduced this year by popular demand. Like every other event, badminton and beginners volleyball were also a success. The conclusion of the beginners’ volleyball tournament would also take place at Bushfield Sports Centre the following day.
On Monday 27th August, we again had numerous sports taking place at Bushfield Sports Centre. Indoors, we saw the conclusion of the volleyball tournaments for the adults and the beginners. Despite the limited number of participants, the squash tournament also took place.
Outdoors, saw the 12 and under 7-a-side football tournament taking place. It was a great pleasure to see our kids having such a wonderful time and more importantly being cheered on by their family and friends. It was for this very reason that the 12 and under football tournament was held on a separate day compared to the other age groups. It was their chance to be the focus of attention! Alhamdulliah, on a personal level, the Under 12 football tournament was the highlight of the overall MAMT tournament! All the kids enjoyed themselves and this made it even more satisfying!
At Thorpe Wood, we also had the golf tournament taking place. Alhamdulillah as it was a nice sunny day, all the golfers enjoyed themselves and their golf tournament was a success as well.
The conclusion of the MAMT tournament took place at Peterborough Husaini Islamic Centre with the presentation ceremony on Monday evening. The highlight of the ceremony being the delicious biriyani that was served!
On behalf of Peterborough Shia Sports, I would like to thank all the CoEJ MAMT organisers, volunteers, organisers, donors and tournament participants in making the tournament a success. We would also like to thank the staff (including referees) at Power League, Werrington Sports Centre and Bushfield Sports Centre for the excellent facilities and services that they provided. May Allah (s.w.t) reward everyone for their efforts! Overall the 2007 MAMT was a great success. Despite there being reduced number of participants this year due to a number of weddings taking place at the different Jamaats and people being away on holidays, Alhamdulillah, we still had over 600 tournament participants. Insha'allah, the MAMT tournament will continue to be held annually for years to come!
