Opening for Camp Mentor E-mail
The World Federation of KSIMC has organised two summer camps this year in the holy city of Qum:
 
1. The Bab al-Ilm course is for 14-17 year olds
2. The Madinah al-Ilm course is for 18-24 year olds
 
This year, The World Federation wishes to recruit for the position of Camp Mentor.

Position: Mentor – World Federation Summer Camps (Madinah al-Ilm and Bab al-Ilm): Summer 2007

Accountable to: Dar al Tableegh Manager and WF Qum Office Manager (from 22/07 – 12/08)

Job Purpose: To assist The World Federation Qum Office in the organization and implementation of The World Federation Summer Camps

Benefits: Return travel expenses to Tehran, living expenses whilst in Iran, unrestricted participation in all the course activities, plus a small token of appreciation. This role will also allow the successful applicant to go through a unique personal development and mentor training schedule

Hours: This post will require the attention of the applicant throughout a three week period (22 July – 12 August) as part of the Summer Camp organising team, as well as a training and personal development schedule prior to the trip. The successful applicant will also be expected to submit a report on return to their home country

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

To provide guidance and assistance to participants of the Summer Camps in relation to the Summer Camp schedule
To support the participants in their development through counseling and advice
To help support and maintain high levels of enthusiasm of the participants throughout the course through interaction and effective communication
To seek regular feedback from the participants and to relay these to the organising team; to make recommendations for improvements
To help implement systems for monitoring the progress of students
To assist in the well being and security of the participants
To deliver educational talks and lectures of short duration and coordinate informal discussions on Islamic topics
To assist the students in their leisure pursuits including shopping
To assist with the production of the Summer Camp documentary films
To ensure photos and diaries are provided for The World Federation website on a daily basis
To assist the organizing team in successfully maintaining the high standards of the course
This list is not exhaustive and therefore any further work that may be a part of the mentor’s duties may also be incorporated into this schedule at a later date

PERSON SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATIONS
The applicant should preferably have completed their A-Levels or equivalent

EXPERIENCE
1. The applicant should preferably be a graduate of the Madinah al-Ilm course or a former student of the Hawza of Qum
2. The applicant should have experience of interaction with the youths of the KSI community in an Islamic setting
3. The applicant should have experience of working in small teams in task oriented projects

SPECIALIST SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE
1. Knowledge of Farsi
2. Ability to give short lectures on Islamic topics
3. Ability to administer First Aid
4. A good understanding of the Islamic Moral System
5. An understanding of film making

GENERAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Organization: Well organized, plans ahead and highlights problems in advance

Interpersonal: Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal with conflict

Teamwork: Able to collaborate with others and contribute as part of a high performance team in
order to achieve a common goal, as opposed to working independently or competitively

Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Initiative: Able to see the ‘bigger picture’ and to realize the implications of one’s actions.  Possessing a proactive approach and attitude to one’s duties; sees tasks through to
completion
